At Coquitlam College, our Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) is here to support you with questions about your study permit, work eligibility, and other immigration-related matters. We provide reliable information and personalized guidance to help you navigate life as an international student in Canada.
The RISIA is available for in-person appointments at the Vancouver Campus or virtual (Zoom) appointments. They can assist with topics such as study permit renewals, post-graduation work permit eligibility, and maintaining your status in Canada. If needed, we will also connect you with other resources, including Academic Advising and Student Services, to ensure you have the support you need throughout your time at the college.
How to Book an Appointment with RISIA

You can book an appointment by visiting the Office of the Registrar in person or by emailing our RISIA directly.

RISIA FAQs
To work off-campus, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- You have a valid study permit with a condition stating that you may work off-campus
- You are enrolled as a full-time student.
- Full-time status: Enrollment in 3 or more courses
- Part-time status: Enrollment in 1 or 2 courses.
- You have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
As of November 8, 2024, international students can work up to 24 hours per week during academic semesters.
Yes, you may work part-time only if:
- You are required to take a part-time course load in your final semester to complete your program, and
- You have maintained full-time status for the duration of your program
You can work full time during a scheduled break

You may be eligible if:
- You submitted your study permit application before November 1, 2024; and
- You maintained full-time student status in Canada during every academic semester of the Associate of Arts Degree program.
Exceptions:
- Authorized leave of absence that lasts less than 150 days; or
- Part-time studies in your last semester
You must apply for your PGWP within 180 days of receiving your letter of confirmation from Coquitlam College.
