Understanding Transfer Credit at Coquitlam College

Coquitlam College is committed to helping students make smooth academic transitions. As a participant in the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT), we work to ensure that students can move between institutions without losing credit for the work they’ve already completed.
Through this partnership, we regularly assess and align our courses with those offered at other institutions in British Columbia, recognizing course-to-course equivalencies wherever appropriate.

Students transferring from other post-secondary institutions may be eligible for credit toward Coquitlam College programs. Key requirements include:
- Courses must generally be from a recognized institution.
- A minimum grade of C- is required for transfer consideration.
- Courses completed within the last 7 years are typically eligible.
- Courses taken outside of BC must be previously recognized by one of BC’s research universities (UBC, SFU, UVic, or UNBC) to be considered for transfer.
Transferred credits will appear on your Coquitlam College transcript but will not impact your GPA.
Many of our students plan to continue their education at top universities across Canada and beyond. Coquitlam College’s courses are widely recognized within the BC Transfer System and are accepted by institutions such as UBC, SFU, UVic, and more.

How to Apply for Transfer Credit
To request a transfer credit assessment, please follow the instructions below:

Meet with an Academic Advisor
It’s recommended to schedule a meeting with an Academic Advisor, ideally during your final semester at your current institution. This will allow you to discuss your eligibility for transfer credit and ensure your courses align with Coquitlam College program requirements. -
Submit Your Official Transcript
Request an official transcript from your previous institution and send it to Coquitlam College. Transcripts can be submitted via mail, email (directly from the institution), or hand-delivered in a sealed envelope. -
Provide Course Outlines or Syllabi (if requested)
If requested by the advisor, please provide detailed course outlines or syllabi to assist in evaluating the transferability of your courses. -
Approval of Transfer Credit
Transfer credits will only be granted for courses approved by an Academic Advisor. Be sure to confirm approval before finalizing your transfer credit request.
