TEFL Certificate for Teachers of Secondary School or College Programs
Admisssion Requirements
- Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Applicants are accepted into the program based on the College's evaluation of their previous school's official transcripts and their ability to satisfy English language proficiency standards
- It is recommended that applicants have a minimum TOEFL score of 480 on the paper-based test or 157 on the computer-based test.
- Applications will be accepted only for groups of 10 or more students.
Coursework (90 hours)
- Second language acquisition theory
- Methodologies and techniques for teaching including listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, intercultural awareness and communication.
- Assessment, evaluation and testing
- Curriculum development
- Lesson and unit plans including developing material, choosing approprite resources, using instructional aids and generating project work.
- Classroom management and organization
Observation (18 hours)
- Students will have opportunities to observe a variety of ESL classroom situations.
Practicum (12 hours)
- Students will prepare and teach various lessons to classes of ESL students.
