TEFL Certificate for Teachers of Secondary School or College Programs

Admisssion Requirements

• Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age
• Applicants are accepted into the program based on the College's evaluation of their previous school's official transcripts and their ability to satisfy English language proficiency standards
• It is recommended that applicants have a minimum TOEFL score of 480 on the paper-based test or 157 on the computer-based test.
• Applications will be accepted only for groups of 10 or more students.

Coursework (90 hours)

• Second language acquisition theory
• Methodologies and techniques for teaching including listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, intercultural awareness and communication.
• Assessment, evaluation and testing
• Curriculum development
• Lesson and unit plans including developing material, choosing approprite resources, using instructional aids and generating project work.
• Classroom management and organization

Observation (18 hours)

• Students will have opportunities to observe a variety of ESL classroom situations.

Practicum (12 hours)

• Students will prepare and teach various lessons to classes of ESL students.
